New UCI rules allowed a larger head tube, fork and down tube, so the frame could guide air around the bottles and cages instead of fighting them. Voyager also developed a flush cockpit around a NACA-profile stem. Aero took priority during design, with weight recovered later through higher-grade carbon. Tested like for like, the finished bike was 8.5 watts faster than its predecessor at 50 km/h.
